Responded Nancy : "You should be glad you married me. If you hadn't, he would have been the mayor of this city."

A persistent party menber once appeared before President Lincoln and demanded appoint-ment to a judgeship as reward for some campaigning he had done in Illionois. Lincoln, aware of the man's lack of judicial attributes, told him it was impossible. "There simply are no vacan-cies at the present time," Lincoln said. The man left. Early the next morning the man was slking along the Potomac when he saw a drowned man pulled from the river and immediately recognized him as a federal judge. Without a moment of hesitation he presented himself to Mr. Lincoln while the president was eating breakfast, told him what he had seen, and demanded an immediate appintment to the vacancy. Lincoln shook his head. "Im sorry, sir, but you came too late," said the president. "I have already appointed the lawyer who saw him fall in."

"안됐네요. 한발 늦었어요. 난 그 사람이 물속으로 뛰어드는 것을 보고 달려온 변호사를 벌써 그 자리에 임명했는걸요"

The plane was carrying three passengers ― a student, a monk and a statesman ― when the pilot warned them of impending crash. "Unfortunately," the pilot said, "we have only the parachutes. I must take one, so that I can report the accident." "And I must have one, "said the statesman, "because, I have a great contribution to make for mankind." The statesman jumped out fo the plane after the pilot. The monk turned to the student and said: "My son, I've had a long life. Yours lies ahead. SO take the last parachute-I wish you good luck." "Don't worry," said the studnet. "We've got two para-chutes. The statesman took my knapsack."

"그럼 또 하나는 내가 차지해야겠어요. 나는 인류를 위해서 해야할 일이 많은 사람이거든요" 하고 정치가가 나섰다. 정치인은 조종사를 뒤따라 비행기에서 뛰어내렸다. 수도승은 학생을 보고 말했다. "학생, 나는 세상을 살만큼 살아왔어. 학생의 인생은 이제부터가 아닌가. 그러니 마지막 남은 낙하산은 학생이 쓰게나. 행운을 비네" "걱정마십시오. 낙하산은 두개 있습니다. 저 정치가가 가지고 간건 저의 배낭이거든요" 학생이 말했다.

While out walking on the African veld one day's a missi-onary suddenly came face to face with a lion. Thinking that his situation was hopeles, he sank to his knees in prayer, but then became greatly relieved when the lion got down on its knees beside him. "Dear brother lion," said the missionary, "how heartening it is to find you joining me in prayer when a few moments ago I feared for my life!" "Don't interrupt," growled the lion, "while I'm saying grace."
